Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital Wins ASHE Vista Award
SALT LAKE CITY, UT — The American Society for Health Care Engineering of the American Hospital Association selected Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital as the 2022 Vista Award winner in the New Construction category. The Vista Awards aim to highlight professionals who are at the forefront of health care design and construction innovation. This is the second consecutive year in which an HDR-designed project has been selected as the Vista Award winner.
Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital is the sole Level II trauma center between Salt Lake City and St. George, Utah. Intermountain Healthcare set out to replace its aging buildings and relocate complementary service lines in 2015, leading to a new construction replacement project that has transformed the Provo, Utah, campus to serve the needs of a growing community.
“Creating a healing environment was one of the major stated purposes of this project and, from that standpoint, we have surpassed expectations,” said Josh Rohatinsky, Intermountain Healthcare Administrative Director. “The atmosphere is much more inviting, and patients and family members now have more space, light, and amenities to make their stay and experience less stressful.”
Intermountain Healthcare's LiVe Well program is focused on four components: Eat Well, Move Well, Feel Well, and Be Well. As the new tower relocated services and the existing tower was demolished, space was cleared for the new LiVe Well Garden Park, which is bordered by the new tower and outpatient building. The grand healing garden features a large pond, waterfall, and a walking path as a focal point for the campus and provides therapeutic outdoor space for staff, patients, and visitors to enjoy views of the Wasatch Mountain Range.
“We have all dedicated countless house over many years to design, coordinate, and construct this state-of-the-art hospital facility to serve the surrounding community and Intermountain Healthcare Staff,” said Neil Cristal, HDR Project Principal. “It truly is so rewarding to be recognized by the American Society for Health Care Engineering for our team's efforts.”
