AMAZONIA, MO — Construction has begun on two Interstate 29 bridge projects in Andrew County north of St. Joseph. These projects include the replacement of the north and southbound I-29 bridges over Hopkins Creek and rehabilitation of the north and southbound bridges over Route T.

The replacement and rehabilitation will be led by contractors from Capital Paving and Construction, LLC., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation. Crews are following the planned schedule below:

  • March 9: Crews closed both north and southbound passing lanes to begin construction of median crossovers.

  • Early April: Crossovers will be utilized to direct traffic head-to-head in the southbound lanes of I-29 at the bridges. The replacement of the northbound bridge over Hopkins Creek and rehab of the northbound bridge over Route T will begin.

  • Early August: Once work on the northbound bridges is complete, traffic will be directed head-to-head in the northbound lanes. The replacement of the southbound bridge over Hopkins Creek and rehab of the southbound bridge over Route T will begin.

  • Late December: Work on both bridges is completed, and all lanes of traffic are restored.

  • January: Median crossovers are removed, and shoulder work completed.
