SAVANNAH, GA — JE Dunn Construction has begun preparation to start construction on a $46 million, comprehensive teaching and research facility for the engineering programs at Georgia Southern University.

The new Center for Engineering and Research (CEAR) will be a major addition to the Georgia Southern Statesboro Campus and will centralize the various departments and multiple disciplines of the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing, whose activities currently take place in three buildings.

The CEAR building projected to be three stories will offer advanced equipment and technology and promote collaboration among engineering disciplines as well as interaction among students, faculty, and researchers. The anticipated 130,000-square-foot building will be dedicated to educational labs and research to primarily support the Manufacturing Engineering programs, but will also comprise classrooms, seminar and conference rooms, computer labs and administrative offices.

CEAR will showcase Georgia Southern’s commitment to regional leadership in educating the state’s future engineers, as well as the University’s commitment to providing economic development leadership by engaging in applied engineering research with industrial partners.

JE Dunn was selected as the project’s Construction Manager at Risk. Architectural services are being provided by Stevens & Wilkinson/SmithGroupJJR>. The CEAR project is scheduled to start construction Jan. 2019 and be complete for fall semester 2020.
