DENVER, CO — Lamp Rynearson has selected José Velazquez, PE, BCEE, as the new Colorado Region Water/Wastewater Leader. Velazquez has 40 years of experience in water- and wastewater-related engineering. He said he was first attracted to the world of water engineering through his understanding of how important water is to the lifestyle in the arid west. During his career, Velazquez has served in the role of Principal-in-Charge, Project Manager and Project Engineer at companies such as CDM, Jacobs and Tetratech.

He has provided long-term, ongoing project engineering and management services for clients in Colorado, the United States and internationally. His experience ranges from master planning, facility assessments, design, project delivery and operations. He focuses on wastewater and water collection/distribution, pumping and treatment. His area of specialty is residuals processing and handling from treatment processes, with an interest in resource recovery and bioenergy. His consulting experience includes leading national initiatives in residuals management and providing training to clients and stakeholders.

When asked what inspires him professionally, Velazquez said, “Doing the right thing for your clients and for the environment. Essentially making an overall positive impact in communities, while minimizing environmental impacts.”
