PHOENIX, AZ — McCarthy Building Companies Inc. promotes Carlos Diaz to Project Director for the firm's Education Services group, where he specializes in higher education and laboratory construction projects. Since joining McCarthy's Southwest region more than eight years ago, Diaz has been involved with the construction of education projects throughout Arizona, including several higher-ed and laboratory projects.

As Project Director, Diaz is responsible for managing on-site project teams as well as all preconstruction and construction operations for the projects he oversees. This includes leading the collaboration between owner, design team, and trade partners throughout the entire construction timeline.

“Carlos is a premier leader within our education group, leading some of our largest higher education and laboratory project teams,” said Bryan Kuster, Senior Vice President for McCarthy's Southwest Education Services group. “His attention to detail, innovative approach, and collaborative mindset are why clients enjoy working with him and our project teams want to work for him. We're excited for Carlos' future here at McCarthy.”

Diaz is currently leading the completion of Arizona State University's Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building 7, a 281,000-square-foot, five-story high-performance research facility that will house ASU's College of Global Futures, the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, the Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Service, the School of Sustainability, the Institute of Human Origins, and the Starbucks Center for the Future of the People and the Planet.

Prior to joining McCarthy, Diaz served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Carl Vinson. Diaz earned his bachelor's degree in construction management from Arizona State University and currently serves on the board of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories.
