Missoula Concrete Construction Joins AltusGroup

MISSOULA, MT — Missoula Concrete Construction, Missoula, Montana, has joined AltusGroup to bring innovative CarbonCast Enclosure Systems and Graphic Concrete technology to the construction market in the upper mountain states.

Missoula is the 20th North American precaster to join the partnership of companies dedicated to precast innovation powered by collaboration. The unique “co-opetition” model enables the group to pool knowledge, expertise and resources for the development and marketing of new precast technologies that single members alone would be unable to fund.

With more than 30 years of experience, Missoula Concrete Construction has become the premier precast concrete provider in Montana. Its modern production facility just west of Missoula enables the company to provide high-quality prestressed and precast products cost effectively.

“We have an outstanding reputation for quality and innovation in our region,” said Douglas Bauer, Owner of Missoula Concrete Construction. “The ability to manufacture and market CarbonCast Enclosure Systems and Graphic Concrete expands our product offering and makes precast an even better option to meet the structural, energy-code and aesthetic needs in our market.”

“We continue to add precasters who share our drive to speed and deliver innovation to the architectural products market,” said John Carson, Executive Director for AltusGroup. “The ASHRAE 90.1 energy code requirements in the upper mountain states make CarbonCast technology with continuous insulation an ideal solution for bringing excellent energy efficiency to a building’s exterior wall system.”

CarbonCast insulated wall panel products use C-GRID non-corrosive, high-strength, epoxy-coated carbon fiber grid as wythe connectors in insulated sandwich wall panels and, on occasion, as secondary reinforcement in the face of exterior wythes for corrosion resistance and crack control. Depending on the application, C-GRID allows for thinner precast sections and can reduce the weight of precast enclosure systems by up to 50 percent, while offering continuous insulation and improved insulation value, full composite action and long-term durability.

Graphic Concrete is a patented technology that has been used extensively in projects across Europe, the Nordics and Australia. Available in North American exclusively through AltusGroup members, the technology transfers patterns, designs and images -- custom or stock -- via a surface-retarded membrane placed at the bottom of the form. After the concrete is cast, cured and extracted from the form, the retarder is washed away with a high-pressure washer, revealing an image that results from the contrast between the fair faced and the exposed aggregate surface. Selection of various aggregates and pigments can dramatically expand possibilities in the finished surface.

AltusGroup precast concrete manufacturers have installed more than 40 million square feet of CarbonCast surface area on nearly 1,500 structures since introducing the technology in 2004.
