MYCON Completes Natatorium Expansion and Renovation

DALLAS, TX — MYCON General Contractors has completed construction of the city of Plano, Texas,’ natatorium expansion and renovation at Carpenter Park Recreation Center, located at 6701 Coit Road, according to Scott Pitt, Vice President of MYCON’s institutional group.
MYCON began work on the $7.2 million project in August 2016. Scope of the work included new construction of a 14,864-square-foot natatorium addition that adjoined the main recreation building housing other athletic areas, classrooms and community spaces. The project was situated between two existing structures requiring MYCON to use a complex phasing plan that entailed building the walls and roof prior to digging the pool area in order to limit the need for scaffolding and to reduce weather impacts.
The indoor leisure and exercise pool features amenities for the entire family including four leisure lanes, lap lanes, a current channel, two slides, a toddler area and a party room. Interior walls are finished with brightly decorated glazed blocks in a splash design pattern of different colors and shapes.
“We are happy to deliver this project on time and on budget for the city of Plano, and we have enjoyed working with the entire project team,” said Pitt. “The city planners, officials, residents and other stakeholders understand how projects like this contribute to the quality of life in the community and how they are critical components of healthy cities with vibrant and growing economies. We appreciate being part of that effort.”
The project architect was SmithGroupJJR of Dallas, Texas.
