New Fort Worth District Engineer Bussell Promoted

FORT WORTH, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announces that Loyl Bussell, P.E., has been promoted to Fort Worth District Engineer.
Bussell will oversee the planning, designing, building, operation and maintenance of the state transportation system for the nine-county Fort Worth District in his new role. He has served as the Fort Worth District's deputy District Engineer since 2014.
As Deputy District Engineer, Bussell provided joint oversight and development of over $3 billion in improvements from the DFW Connector, I-35W, SH 360, I-30/360 Interchange and all other aspects of construction and maintenance. The district comprises: Erath, Hood, Jack, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant and Wise.
"TxDOT has a great relationship working with our partners in North Texas," said Bussell. "I am excited to carry on this work and look forward to building upon the region's transportation successes."
A TxDOT employee since 1984, Bussell began his career as a summer employee. After receiving his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1993, he worked for TxDOT's Design Division's bridge section, performing both underwater and fracture critical inspections on bridges across the state.
In 1997, Bussell received his master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2002, he became the Fort Worth District's assistant bridge design engineer coordinating all bridge design and also served as the $1.1 billion DFW Connector deputy design project manager.
In 2010, he served as the central design engineer before his promotion to Director of Transportation planning and development during which he worked closely with the North Central Texas Council of Governments, local entities and TxDOT staffs to develop projects and district funding priorities.
Bussell's appointment fills the vacancy left by Brian Barth who was named TxDOT's Transportation Program Officer in 2017.
