FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — The newly constructed 209-foot westbound SR 84 bridge has been installed over I-95, part of the I-95 Express Lanes Phase 3C Project. The innovative operation was managed by the Archer Western - de Moya Joint Venture, along with Mammoet, BCC Engineering, and The Corradino Group.

The original structure was removed last May and rebuilt alongside northbound I-95. The new 1,500-ton bridge was moved and installed using self-propelled modular transporters. Archer Western - de Moya utilized this Accelerated Bridge Construction method to benefit the project schedule and reduce impact to the traveling public.

The Florida Department of Transportation's I-95 Express Lanes Phase 3C project will extend the existing Express Lanes north from just south of Hollywood Boulevard to just south of Broward Boulevard in Broward County. One lane will be added and the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane will be converted to create two Express Lanes in each direction.

Other project improvements include construction of I-95/I-595 Direct Connectors between 95 Express Lanes and I-595, as well as reconstruction, milling, resurfacing, and widening of I-595 from SR-7 to I-95 and along I-95 from south of Hollywood Boulevard to south of Broward Boulevard. Additional work includes bridge widening along I-95 at several locations. Construction began in July 2019 and is expected to be completed in spring 2025.
