NEW ORLEANS, LA — Erin Rooney was recently appointed to the board of directors of the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) for a two-year term. CRCL is the first statewide nonprofit dedicated to coastal restoration in Louisiana and an advocate for coastal issues at the local, state, and federal level.

“We are excited to have Erin serve on the board of CRCL in this leadership role,” said Brett Geesey, HDR's Louisiana Office Principal. “Her technical expertise and passion for the coastal environment make her an excellent choice.”

Rooney is a Professional Engineer and Certified Floodplain Manager experienced in many aspects of coastal engineering including marsh creation, shoreline protection, feasibility studies, dredging, and beach nourishment. She manages several ongoing projects along the Gulf Coast and has worked on all stages of design including hydrodynamic modeling and coastal construction administration activities.

Rooney recently received the Outstanding Young Civil Engineer Award from the New Orleans Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). She has presented at industry conferences on topics including living shorelines, breakwaters, marsh creation, mitigation banking, and numerical modeling, as well as having articles published in coastal industry magazines and journals.

Rooney has served on committees for State of the Coast, American Shore and Beach Preservation, and the ASCE New Orleans Branch, and founded the first student chapter of the Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute of ASCE. She received her bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and her master's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University.
