WASHINGTON, D.C. — Global design firm Stantec has promoted Allen Whitaker to Principal in the firm’s health sector practice. In this new position, Whitaker will work closely with regional and global health sector leadership to implement Stantec’s strategic plan focused on growth in the Washington, D.C. region and beyond.

Whitaker has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare design, with a focus on particle therapy centers, academic medical centers, ambulatory care and cancer/oncology centers. His project experience spans the globe, from across the United States to China.

During his time at Stantec he has provided project leadership as part of the team’s Particle Therapy Center of Excellence, recognized as an expert in the design of advanced cancer and oncology services worldwide. Whitaker will leverage his specialized healthcare expertise to bolster the team’s expansion of the health sector across the region.

“Guided by a deep understanding of the client’s needs to deliver unique, more meaningful — and ultimately more sustainable — project solutions, Allen has already proven himself to be an immense asset to our health sector both in D.C. and globally,” said Brenda M. Bush-Moline, AIA, ACHA, LEED AP, EDAC, Vice President and Health Sector Leader at Stantec. “This new leadership position represents the next evolution for Stantec and for Allen. It will allow him to broaden the focus of our sector in the region through his exceptional talent while continuing to nurture our work in the particle therapy sector.”

Recent healthcare projects led out of the firm’s D.C. office include work for Inova, MedStar, Johns Hopkins and Kaiser Permanente. Particle therapy projects include the New York Proton Center in New York, New York; Emory Proton Treatment Center in Atlanta, Georgia; and the Hefei Heavy Ion Medical Center in Hefei City, China.
