Thorpe Joins HNTB’s Northwest Division as Rail and Transit Senior Project Manager

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — E. Gregory Thorpe, PE, joined HNTB Corporation as Rail and Transit Senior Project Manager and Associate Vice President. He is based in the firm’s Salt Lake City, Utah, office and serves clients throughout the eight-state Northwest Division. Thorpe brings more than four decades of experience in project management, engineering and executive leadership. Primarily, he supports HNTB transit projects in Utah, Colorado and the Puget Sound region.

“Infrastructure in the western U.S. is undergoing a period of intensive growth, driven by rising population and an increased awareness of the benefits of transit solutions,” said Jim Thomson, PE, HNTB Northwest Division President. “Adding Greg to the HNTB team is the right decision at the right time for our clients and the public they serve.”

Thorpe brings expertise in light rail and other transit projects. For the past 17 years he worked at the Utah Transit Authority, serving as Project Manager for many light rail projects, including the 10.6-mile Mid-Jordan and the 3.8-mile Draper TRAX extensions; double tracking of the Sugar House street car line; the Airport Line and Station relocation project; replacement of the half grand union in downtown Salt Lake City; replacement of 25 at-grade crossings; and upgrading of 24 light rail stations. He also served as Project Manager on the $90-million Deport District bus maintenance facility and ongoing upgrades to the Mount Ogden bus facility.

“Greg is a perfect fit for HNTB’s clients,” said Todd Jensen, SE, Office Leader at HNTB’s Salt Lake City office. “His deep transportation experience makes him a tremendous resource as we continue to deliver quality work on the area’s most critical infrastructure projects.”

Thorpe earned a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering from Utah State University. At the University of Utah, he completed post-graduate studies in civil and structural engineering. A licensed Professional Engineer, Thorpe also has served as President of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Utah.
