BASTROP, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation joined State Representative John Cyrier, Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape, Bastrop Mayor Connie Schroeder, and others as they cut the ribbon on the new overpass at SH 71 and SH 95.

“The $16.5 million project will enhance safety and mobility, benefiting both the citizens of Bastrop and motorists traveling through the area,” TxDOT Austin Deputy District Engineer Kevin Dickey said. “We appreciate all the help and collaboration from our partners on this project.”

As Texas continues to grow in population and double in population in the next 30 to 50 years, we are in desperate need of these infrastructure projects,” said State Representative John Cyrier. “I congratulate the many leaders who worked together to make this project happen.”

“There are three things that make a great community; excellent education, healthcare and a great transportation system," according to Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape. “Thank you TxDOT for doing your part in making us a better community and laying the foundation for what will make us a great community in the future.”

“This cuts down on commute times significantly,” said Bastrop Mayor Connie Schroeder. She pointed out that this bridge is already having an impact. “The impact is not only all the citizens of Texas but for our own citizens here in Bastrop. It’s a quality of life issue and that’s something we strive for every day.”

In addition to the overpass, new two-lane frontage roads were constructed in both directions. The project was completed on time and on budget. The project contractor is Hunter Industries, LTD.

This is the sixth of nine bridges being built along SH 71 to eliminate traffic signals between Bastrop and Austin, Texas.
