Urban Reconstruction Project to Continue in Gettysburg

PIERRE, SD — The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will continue progress on the reconstruction of U.S. Highway 212 in Gettysburg. Work on the project includes grading, storm sewer, curb and gutter, sidewalk, lighting, and PCC pavement. The work will be completed in seven phases scheduled over two construction seasons. With the first construction season substantially completed, the contractor has finished concrete work east of Mannston Street. The remaining concrete work began in April.

The contractor will be progressing West of Mannston Street with storm sewer placement, geotextile fabric, granular material, and concrete placement. The contractor will carry two-way traffic while prepping adjacent for storm sewer, granular material, and concrete placement. The contractor will periodically close the intersection of Mannston Street and U.S. Highway 212 to place concrete in the intersection.

The traveling public should be aware of the signing on the project in order to safely traverse through the construction zones. As the work is completed in various areas, it is likely that the work zones will change to safely guide traffic. Minimal additional work will be done east of the Mannston Street intersection and travel should be mostly unimpeded.

The prime contractor on the $12.9-million project is Reede Construction, Inc. of Aberdeen, South Dakota. The contractor anticipates completing the remaining work by the end of August, with an overall project completion date of October 28, 2022.
