White Settlement Bridge Opens to Traffic

FT. WORTH, TX — The first of three Signature V-Pier Bridges on Panther Island, White Settlement Road Bridge, is officially open to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The signature V-Pier bridges that will span over the future bypass channel were designed by the City of Fort Worth.

There are still a number of items that will need to be completed prior to the Texas Department of Transportation's acceptance of the bridge from the contractor. The contractor will continue working the on handrail and signage on the bridge along with painting the underside of the bridge. There is also work remaining on the bridge’s LED lighting system, site grading, and lastly, clean-up.

Lane closures in the outer lanes will occur as needed over the next couple of weeks as final completion of the project wraps up. The southern walking path is open to pedestrian traffic. The northern walking path will remain closed to pedestrians as work continues. An official opening event for the bridge will be planned for late spring or summer.

The North Main Bridge is projected to be the next bridge to come online, targeted for early summer. The Henderson Street Bridge is targeted for opening in late summer. The three bridges are part of a $1.17-billion project to create Panther Island by cutting a bypass between the two forks of the Trinity River as a way to control river flooding.

“This is an exciting milestone for Fort Worth. We are proud to open the White Settlement Signature V-Pier Bridge to traffic and look forward to a formal opening celebration later ... once the project’s final punch list items are completed by the bridge contractor,” said Doug Rademaker, City of Fort Worth Project Manager.
