PORT ELIZABETH, NJ Dewberry has been selected by the Columbia Group to prepare final designs for a new chassis depot and empty container storage yard at Port Elizabeth in New Jersey.

Work will include terminal layout, new modular offices, and gate systems. The 60-acre empty container storage yard will be modified to provide new circulation patterns, a damage area, privately owned vehicle (POV) parking, new trailer inspection report (TIR) booths, and new crew buildings.

The 34-acre chassis depot will be a step towards establishing a "gray" chassis pool in the Port of New York and New Jersey. Ultimately a gray pool would allow chassis to be interchanged freely and stored off-dock, instead of at terminals, which will provide the ability of chassis to move freely in terms of start and stop locations. Site improvements for the chassis depot consist of the removal of the existing crew building, realignment of inbound and outbound circulation, POV parking, new TIR booths, and three new modular offices.

Dewberry will also coordinate Tenant Alteration Application activities with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Located close to major marine terminals, the storage yard will improve efficiency and turn times required for positioning of empty containers and chassis.
