GUCA Members Network at the GUCA Northwest Georgia Industry Meeting
FOREST PARK, GA — The lunch crowd began arriving early at Central Street Tavern in downtown Acworth, Georgia, for the Georgia Utility Contractors Association (GUCA) Northwest Georgia Industry Luncheon. The historic building located on Senator Russell Avenue was the perfect setting to host a luncheon on a fall afternoon.
GUCA members and guests heard a presentation from Dana Johnson, Cobb County Community Development Agency. Johnson discussed upcoming projects throughout Cobb County that are expected to be significant contributors to the local economy. He highlighted the much-anticipated new home of the Atlanta Braves, SunTrust Park. He detailed the parks concept of being an “all day experience” where families and friends will be able to dine as well as entertain themselves before and after the ball game. He also explained some of the infrastructure plans being put into place that will help alleviate many of the traffic and logistical concerns of fans and surrounding residents.
Johnson continued with one of the most beneficial moments, as he mentioned that Cobb County wants construction in the county to be seamless with permits and regulations and beneficial to upcoming construction infrastructure needs. He stated that he wants contractors to contact him if they are having problems with working with county officials that may be hindering work moving forward.
GUCA President Bobby Cates, Ruby-Collins, Inc., also addressed GUCA members and guests. He welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked BITCO Insurance Companies for their generous sponsorship. Cates also encouraged the members to stay active and participate in future GUCA functions.
GUCA Executive Director Vikki Consiglio also updated those in attendance about upcoming events, safety classes, and industry and legislative issues. She also highlighted the GUCA affinity programs including the Wade Ford Vehicle Discount Program, TD AmeriTrade Contractors Retirement Plan, BITCO Safety Dividend Program, PAHPT Health Benefit Program, Verizon Wireless Discounts and the HB Next Safety Compliance Partnership. Wade Ford and BenSource were in attendance to address any questions and inquiries about the vehicle discount program and contractors retirement plan respectively.
Membership Committee Chairman Matt Crawford, Crawford Grading & Pipeline, Inc., who strongly encouraged promoting membership recruitment in the area to strengthen GUCA’s Northwest Georgia membership, emphasized the importance of generating new membership. He promoted the 2015-2016 GUCA Membership Contest “Be the Best, Grow with GUCA” and emphasized the importance to keep building up strong membership and relationships within the association.
