Kaufman Lynn Construction Honored with Three Excellence in Construction Awards by ABC Florida East Coast Chapter
DELRAY BEACH, FL — Kaufman Lynn Construction was honored with three Excellence in Construction awards by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Florida East Coast Chapter during a ceremony held on Friday, October 13, at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale. Kaufman Lynn Construction’s entry, Miami City Self Storage was recognized with an “Eagle Award” (the highest recognition) while its Paraiso at Fountain Square in Miami and Pompano Beach Pier Parking Garage projects were both honored with a “Pyramid Award.”
The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition that honors both general and specialty contractors for innovative and high-quality construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from along Florida’s east coast, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.

Miami City Self Storage, which received the “Eagle Award,” is a 111,068-square-foot, eight-story self-storage facility located at 1103 SW 3rd Avenue in the heart of downtown Miami. The exterior features custom design elements including illuminated architectural panels and a painted mural accented with stucco trim lines. The high-rise steel structure represents a departure from the traditional model for this building type, and serves as a new prototype for urban infill sites. Site logistics were the highlight of the project due to ongoing work surrounding the project site (multiple high-rises and new infrastructure plant) as well as the current neighborhood to consider. The building falls into the high-rise code and included, among other items, a smoke evacuation or smoke pressurization system, and generator which are not typical in self-storage facilities.
Paraiso at Fountain Square, a “Pyramid Award” winner, is a 426,786-square-foot, 175-unit, five-story apartment building with an attached parking garage located at 9931 West Flagler Street in Miami. A high-quality attractive project, the $27.5 million Paraiso required a significant amount of creativity and construction management skill to build. The design features four residential wings in a “doughnut” arrangement around an interior courtyard with a resort-style pool, cabana, amenities and mature landscaping, including 30-foot tall palms. It also featured an outdoor fireplace and on-site gastropub. The interior of this building features modern European cabinetry and sinks, stainless steel appliances, and relaxing garden tubs.
Pompano Beach Pier Parking Garage, another “Pyramid” award recipient, is the first public parking garage in Pompano Beach and represents the City’s investment in the development of the overall Pompano Beach Pier Park Master Development Plan. The iconic 239,646-square foot mixed-use structure, located at 222 N. Pompano Beach Blvd., provides a sustainable parking option offering 662 parking spaces to serve the needs of the revitalized beach area. As the cornerstone of the Pompano Beach Pier revitalization and transformation, defining features were paramount to set a design precedent. The fluid wavelike design of the ground level with its 16 sail-shaped façade canopies that comprise over 27,000 square feet of surface area, is evocative of the maritime location. The delivery method for the project was Design-Build, which allowed fast, informed decisions to be made regarding not only constructability and engineering, but also practicality and functionality.
