Obr Joins Brown & Gay Engineers

John Obr
HOUSTON, TX John Obr, P.E., recently joined Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. and will provide additional leadership to the firm's growing Construction Management practice. Obr comes from Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) where he served as Director of the Construction Division at the state level. He brings 28 years of experience in planning, design, construction, management and oversight of major and minor transportation projects, ranging from small off-system bridges to multi-level interchanges.
Obr began his career with TxDOT in 1988 as an Engineering Assistant and has served in various roles, including IH 35 Planning Office lead, Area Engineer, Director of Construction, and District Engineer before being named Leader of TxDOT's Construction Division in 2009. His extensive background involved conducting over 30 public meetings and included many opportunities to discuss construction impacts with the public. He has overseen the construction of many complex designs and reconstruction of major highway sections, interchanges, ramps, MSE walls, and bridges. He also has been involved with the PS&E and construction phase services for more than 26 years.
While at TxDOT, Obr developed a diverse set of skills ranging from design and planning to project management. As director of TxDOT's Construction Division, Obr worked on building key relationships with the highway construction community and also helped establish TxDOT as a leader in e-construction, a paperless construction administration delivery process.
