Abilene District Appoints New Director of Construction

ABILENE, TX The Texas Department of Transportation - Abilene, names Wayne Ekdahl, PE, as the district's Director of Construction.

Ekdahl has served the Abilene District for most of his TxDOT career, which began in 1996 as a Construction Inspector. During his career, Ekdahl has worked as a Survey Technician, Roadway Designer, Design Project Manager and District Surveyor. He most recently was the Abilene Area Engineer.

Ekdahl earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering technology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, and a Bachelor of Science in Agri-business from Tarleton University in Stephenville, Texas. Retired from the Navy, he spent nine years in the Submarine Force Atlantic and 11 years with the Seabees, where he was deployed to Iraq for a year.

Wayne and his wife, Sylvia have two children, Sabrina and her husband Dustin who are living in Kansas and a son, Joseph who lives in Abilene. They also have four grandchildren with whom they enjoy spending time, and a fifth grandchild on the way.
