Hill & Wilkinson Partners with Texas Tech University to Build $91M Expansion

LUBBOCK, TX Hill & Wilkinson General Contractors announces it is partnering with Texas Tech University to build a $91-million expansion for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC). A thriving program that graduates more than 1,800 students a year, TTUHSC says the project will usher in the next generation of technology and health science.
The expansion project involves adding 185,000 square feet to the Center, which includes a 100,000-square-foot extension of the current Health Sciences Center building complete with research laboratories and a gross anatomy lab. In addition, two new freestanding buildings, a conference center and the Education, Research and Technology Building, are under construction and will house research facilities, classrooms, offices, collaborative spaces and conference areas.
Major highlights of the project include:
* The west expansion is 110,576 square feet and connects to the Preston Smith Library at the basement and second floor. It includes one 240-seat flip classroom, four 100-seat classrooms, study and research facilities in anatomical sciences, student lounge and collaboration study areas and space for a potential cafe kiosk;
* The north expansion of the HSC will include 58,142 square feet, including research labs, translational research facilities classrooms, offices and support space, new technology and equipment and related infrastructure upgrades;
* A freestanding conference center will include 14,500 square feet of space adjacent to the new Education, Research and Technology building and the existing Academic Classroom Building;
* A new Fourth Street entrance will include a formal entry to the TTUHSC campus and additional access to the campus at a signalized intersection.
Perkins + Will is the architect for the project.
Construction on the TTHSC project began in June of 2017 and will be completed and open in time for the Center's 50th year anniversary in 2019.
