RACINE, WI With the Chicago Architecture Biennial hitting its halfway point, there is still time to experience Frank Lloyd Wright's designs at SC Johnson's world headquarters in Racine, Wisconsin. Since the Biennial opened more than 5,000 people have taken the tour, with 2,700 guests using the free shuttle bus from downtown Chicago, Illinois, to Racine.Â
Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President - Global Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability at SC Johnson said, "We're proud to be able to offer this family-friendly experience with our tours and the bus trip from Chicago. The goal is for everyone to have an unforgettable time as they explore our beautiful campus while spending time with family."
SC Johnson encourages guests to register now to bring friends and family on the campus tours during the holidays. The tours provide an educational and fun family event with new experiences added during the Biennial that are not available during the rest of the year.
"The Great Workroom felt very familiar because I had studied it as a student," said Sijia Zhou, a recent architecture graduate from Toronto, Canada. "But to actually walk into the Administration Building and look up to see the 'lily pads' and the lighting in person for the first time was very special.
"As one of the first Frank Lloyd Wright commercial sites I've seen, it offered both a broad-based design approach, while remaining intimate in many details," said Julien White, from Chicago. "There were a lot of surprises, especially in the Research Tower. Overall, it was a very good tour and I'm going to come back."
Until Jan. 7, 2018, guests will be able to tour the world-renowned Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Administration Building and Research Tower. The Foster + Partners-designed Fortaleza Hall is included in the tour, as well as the opportunity to check out fun, interactive displays like the Wright Photo Studio where guests can have their photograph taken "magically" standing next to Frank Lloyd Wright.
The Chicago Architecture Biennial is the largest architecture and design exhibition in North America. This year's Biennial features over 141 practitioners from more than 20 countries addressing the 2017 theme "Make New History." For the second time, SC Johnson is partnering with the Chicago Architecture Biennial as a sponsor.
Another new feature of the tour is the On the Wright Trail exhibit, which is the latest installment in The SC Johnson Gallery: At Home with Frank Lloyd Wright. The exhibit offers information on the different Wright-designed sites included in Wisconsin's new Frank Lloyd Wright Trail.
