Level 10 Construction Reaches Two Million Hours Worked Without One Lost-Time Injury
SUNNYVALE, CA Level 10 Construction announces that it has reached a key milestone: 2 million work hours without one lost-time injury.
What is the significance of that milestone?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' latest Injury and Illness Data report, the average lost-time occupational injury rate for all general contractors in 2014 was 1.3, or slightly more than one incident per 100 full-time workers. Level 10's lost-time occupational injury rate in 2014 was zero. In fact, the company has had zero lost-time occupational injuries in the 2 million work hours it has logged since the company's founding in 2011.
General Superintendent Pat Morrissey calls this a huge accomplishment and one that was achieved by Level 10 making safety its number-1 core value.
"Everyone at Level 10 is responsible for this metric," said Morrissey. "We truly walk the walk and practice safety in all of our efforts at Level 10."
Safety Director Rick Seifert and a staff of 22 safety managers lead level 10's safety program, which in 2014 and 2015 won the California Employers' Association (CEA) President's Safety Award, the highest safety recognition program in the industry.
Last year, only 17 California contractors received the award, based on criteria that includes an Experience Modification Rate (or EMR) of < .70 (Level 10's EMR is .50). (The EMR is a calculation used by insurance companies to gauge both past cost of injuries and future chances of risk.)
"We are incredibly proud of our safety awards and reaching this new milestone of 2 million work hours with zero lost-time injuries," said Seifert. "We say we are one of the safest contractors in California, and we have the metrics to prove it."
Seifert attributes Level 10's stellar safety record to four things:
Highly trained and motivated superintendents
Involved safety managers who take part in the company's day-to-day field operations and planning
The integration of safety into Level 10's approach to production and quality
Leadership support of the company's safety program and efforts
