Las Cruces to Break Ground on Convention Center Expansion

LAS CRUCES, NM — Ground-breaking for the $5 million 17,000-square-foot expansion of the Las Cruces Convention Center will took place at the convention center located at 680 E. University Ave.

The project was designed by WDG Architects in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and HB Construction, Inc. is the general contractor. Construction will take about 12 months, and the expanded facility will be ready for occupancy by summer of 2019. The present Convention Center will remain open and operational during construction.

The expansion will add approximately 17,000 square feet of meeting space, including additions to the exhibition hall, new breakout meeting rooms, additional space in the lobby and reception area, as well as more support space.

Currently, the LEED certified Convention Center is 55,000 square feet with just more than 30,000 square feet of meeting space. The facility, located on 10 acres at the corner of University Avenue and Union Avenue in Las Cruces, features a 14,500-square-foot exhibition hall as well as a 9,000-square-foot ballroom. There are six break-out rooms totally more than 3,000 square feet. Additionally, there are more than 5,000 square feet of outdoor space and 2,000 square feet of indoor pre-function space.
