DALLAS, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) Chief Engineer Bill Hale, P.E., announces his retirement from the department, closing the chapter on his 39-year TxDOT career.

Hale's journey with TxDOT began May 23, 1983. Throughout his almost four-decade career, Hale had the opportunity to serve in the Ellis County Area Office in the Dallas District, the Southeast Dallas County Area Office, as Dallas District Engineer, Abilene District Engineer, and in the TxDOT Administration as Chief of Engineering Operations.

In his farewell announcement, Hale thanked those who provided support and opportunities, the people that made up the teams that delivered the programs and projects, and those that created a work environment that make it possible to deliver a world-class transportation program.

"TxDOT is well-positioned to lead the nation to meet the challenges of the future transportation system," Hale wrote. "I will always be an ambassador for the good work that TxDOT provides to the state of Texas."

Hale also thanked his parents for encouraging him to take a summer job at Dallas Power and Light and supporting his decision to transfer to the University of Arlington to pursue civil engineering in the summer of 1979.
