Manhattan Construction Company Wins Three ABC Greater Houston Excellence in Construction Awards

HOUSTON, TX — Manhattan Construction Company, a general building company, has been honored by the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Greater Houston with three Excellence in Construction awards, including the ICE Award, the program's highest honor. The awards program recognizes outstanding projects in the commercial and industrial construction industry.

Manhattan Construction Company received Excellence In Construction honors, including:

ICE Award: United Technical Operations Center - Hangar X in Houston, Texas, in the “Institutional Publicly Funded Greater than $40 Million” Category

The United Technical Operations Center (UTOC) at George Bush Intercontinental Airport is a program consisting of multiple projects working together to improve and consolidate United Airlines maintenance services in the Houston area. Built by Manhattan Construction and designed by FSB, the project includes a 2.5-wide plane body hangar, an engine build-up area, roughly 13 acres of new hardstand and taxi lane paving, and the renovation of existing Hangar E and the United Stores Facility. The project also incorporates a new Shops Facility addition to the existing Hangar E Engine Build-Up facility.

Merit Award: Bob Watson Education Center at Turner Park in Houston, Texas, in the “Institutional Publicly Funded” Category

The project was built by Manhattan Construction, designed by English + Associates Architects, Inc., and engineered by Garza + McLain Structural Engineers, Inc., Duplantis Design Group, and E&C Engineers & Consultants Inc. The Bob Watson Education Center at Turner Park is a new 5,600-square-foot classroom building located at the Houston Astros Youth Academy. It allows the academy to expand opportunities such as after school tutoring, SAT/ACT prep, college admissions mentoring, field maintenance, groundskeeping, sports journalism and broadcasting, life skills training, and leadership development to youth in Houston.

Merit Award: Sam Houston State University - Art Complex and Associated Infrastructure in Huntsville, Texas, in the “Institutional Publicly Funded $5-$30 Million” Category

Built by Manhattan Construction Company and designed by Kirksey Architecture and engineered by Cardno Haynes Whaley Associates, this project is a new four-story, 72,000-square-foot building on the Sam Houston campus with photo studios, galleries, darkrooms, office space, lounges, drawing and painting classrooms, as well as printmaking laboratories.
