McCarthy Tops Out Mirabella at ASU on the Arizona State University Campus

PHOENIX, AZ — McCarthy Building Companies recently celebrated the topping out of Mirabella at ASU, a $167-million, 20-story Life Plan Community being built on the campus of Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, Arizona. The topping-out ceremony marks the placement of the final beam atop the 613,992-square-foot tower and celebrates the achievement of this milestone.

Mirabella at ASU blends a senior community lifestyle with the learning and recreational environment of Arizona State University, delivered with resort-style amenities in spacious penthouses and apartments ranging from 751 square feet to 2,665 square feet. The 20-story tower includes four dining venues, three of which are located on the penthouse level, an indoor pool and wellness center, an event center, a wood shop, game room, on-site physical therapy, a library and underground parking.

“This is another sign of progress on the road to what we believe is an incredible demonstration of what the future of retirement can look like — active, engaged, purposeful and filled with lifelong learning opportunities,” said Lindsey Beagley, Director of Lifelong University Engagement at Arizona State University. “It’s going to be a marvelous opportunity not only for our new Mirabella residents, but for the students and faculty who will be able to interact with these folks."

The project is being developed by Pacific Retirement Services (PRS) in partnership with University Realty, a subsidiary of ASU Enterprise Partners, both nonprofit entities that raise private resources for the university. Portland-based Ankrom Moissan Architects is the project designer.

Under a collaboration agreement with ASU, residents of the Mirabella community (called Founding Members) will be able to attend and participate in ASU classes, activities and programs. PRS is working with the ASU Foundation to provide social opportunities, lifelong learning and entertainment opportunities that will offer a landing place for older, retired alumni and others desiring to reacquaint themselves with life in the Valley of the Sun.

“All of us at PRS are very excited for the 2020 opening of Mirabella at ASU. Our Founding Members are equally thrilled to move into their new homes and experience a university-inspired lifestyle filled with continued-learning opportunities through ASU classes, as well as the wealth of sports, arts and cultural outlets campus life provides,” said Paul Riepma, Senior Vice President of Marketing for PRS.

Like other PRS continuing-care communities, Mirabella at ASU will have independent-living, assisted-living and memory-support options, and private suites with skilled nursing care. Mirabella at ASU will offer approximately 252 independent-living apartments, 11 assisted-living apartments, 20 memory-support suites and 21 private skilled nursing suites.

“Reaching this project milestone is especially exciting because there is no other facility like it in the state,” said Justin Kelton, President of McCarthy Building Companies’ Southwest region. “We are proud to continue our relationship with ASU and PRS by building this landmark project on campus that will make a significant impact on the Greater Phoenix community and offer lifelong learning opportunities for older generations.”

Major subcontractors include Buesing Corp., Castle Contracting LLC, Delta Diversified Enterprises Inc., IMCOR (Interstate Mechanical Corporation) and KT Fabrication Inc., Berg, E&K and Schuff Steel. Completion of the project is scheduled for August 2020.
