Modjeski and Masters Selected as Design Engineer of Record for Parkersburg Memorial Bridge Rehabilitation
PARKERSBURG, WV — Modjeski and Masters has been selected by Parkersburg Bridge Partners (PBP) as the Engineer of Record for the Parkersburg Memorial Bridge Rehabilitation. As part of the PBP team, Modjeski and Masters will provide all of the design engineering services for the steel truss and girder bridge that crosses the Ohio River between Parkersburg, West Virginia and Belpre, Ohio.
The rehabilitated Parkersburg Memorial Bridge will include a new paint and coating system, a completely new deck, superstructure and substructure repairs, and upgraded lighting and other aesthetic treatments. When completed, the bridge will utilize an open-road, all-electronic tolling system and service approximately 4 million crossings per year.
“We are proud to provide enhancements with Parkersburg Bridge Partners that will allow the bridge to continue there [in Parkersburg] for years to come,” said Dan McCaffrey, PE, Structural Project Manager at Modjeski and Masters. “The rehabilitated bridge will enhance local commerce, by providing a more direct route for business traffic when the current load posting is removed.”
In 2021, PBP was selected by the City of Parkersburg to purchase, rehabilitate, and modernize the Parkersburg Memorial Bridge. PBP will provide all ongoing operations, maintenance, tolling, and customer service activities for the rehabilitated structure.
“We are pleased to have Modjeski and Masters as part of the national caliber team of experts working on the Memorial Bridge project," said Ken Szeliga, Vice President of Construction and Operations for United Bridge Partners, PBP's parent company. "This is a critical piece of infrastructure in the Mid-Ohio Valley, connecting residents to work, school, and commerce across the Ohio River."
Construction is expected to begin in March 2022. Rehabilitation is expected to be complete and fully open to traffic in 2023.
