Phase 2 of I-70 Arriba to Flagler Project Begins

ARRIBA, CO — The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner, Castle Rock Construction Company, has begun work on the next phase of the I-70 Arriba East and West Concrete Overlay Project.

In this final phase, eastbound I-70 is closed between mile points 380 (west of Arriba) and 396.1 (east of Flagler) to allow for asphalt milling, concrete paving, bridge overlay, and guardrail installation. In early April, traffic will be moved into a head-to-head configuration on the westbound side of I-70 until fall 2020.

Temporary on/off ramps are being used at the Flagler and Arriba interchanges to allow access to I-70. During daytime construction activities, the ramps will be split when necessary with one side being used for general traffic and one side for construction vehicle traffic.

Motorists should watch for workers and drive with caution through the work zone. Speed limits through the work zone will be reduced to 65 mph and in some locations 55 mph.

This $44.6-million project will include concrete paving, hot mix asphalt, bridge overlay, full depth reclamation, and striping. The new pavement and improved cross slopes will provide safer roads for motorists by better draining rain and melting snow. Phase 1 of the project completed the westbound lanes with new concrete paving.
