GLASTONBURY, CT — The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM) has been recognized by the Connecticut Building Congress (CBC) for three Project Team Awards, winning for building projects in the health care and education markets. The CBC Project Team Awards will be presented on June 14, 2022, at The Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, Connecticut.

The first place award in the Higher Education (Large) category was given to the new 85,000-square-foot Charles F. Dolan School of Business Project at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. SLAM, Gilbane Building Company, and Fairfield University worked to deliver the project within budget and on time for the fall 2019 opening. Techniques such as Gilbane's Advanced Planning and Scheduling and Virtual Design and Construction ensured the project remained on schedule and trades were coordinated transparently despite challenges, such as expansive sitework, long-lead custom materials, and a unique curved building frame.

The merit place award in the Higher Education (Large) category was given to the Sacred Heart University, Upper Quad Phase 3 Project in Fairfield, Connecticut. SLAM, Consigli, and Sacred Heart University collaborated proactively to deliver the final phase of the university's signature quad marked by a modern interpretation of collegiate gothic architecture and outdoor spaces. Utilizing hybrid communication models and maintaining uninterrupted construction, the team achieved a cohesive gathering space to support students for years to come.

The merit place award in the Senior Living (Large) category was given to the Chapel Haven Schleifer Center Independent Living (SAIL) Building Project in New Haven, Connecticut. The integrated design build team of SLAM and S/L/A/M Construction Services worked with the owner and the entire project team to develop a unique program, efficient design, budget goals, constructability solutions, and project logistics. The new SAIL Building, a $17-million, four-story, 48,500-square-foot, 28-unit facility with 42 beds replaced several older structures to accommodate the needs of Chapel Haven's community members with autistic spectrum aging.
