Stantec Awarded Contract to Provide Engineering Services to Address Infrastructure Maintenance at National Parks

DENVER, CO — Global design firm Stantec has been awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract to serve as architect and engineering consultant by the National Park Service (NPS). Under the $30-million contract, Stantec will work closely with the NPS Denver Service Center to find design solutions to address the backlog of infrastructure maintenance within areas of national significance throughout the U.S. Stantec will provide an array of engineering services to the NPS, including civil, structural, mechanical, sanitary, water/wastewater, electrical, and environmental engineering.

National parks host more than 327 million visitors annually. Parks facilities are aging, and growth in park visitation is putting further stress on the parks' infrastructure. In alignment with the newly signed Great American Outdoors Act — which will provide funding to address the maintenance backlog at NPS facilities — Stantec will help the NPS deliver a variety of projects, including, but not limited to:

  • Design and restoration of new and existing roadways, transportation corridors, parking lots, and bridges

  • New trail and corridor design

  • Implementation of new utility systems, including wastewater, electrical, water and water treatment, and heating/cooling

  • Rehabilitation and construction of new buildings, such as visitor centers, comfort stations, bathhouses, and museums

  • Restoration, creation, and stabilization of riverbanks, wetlands, riparian corridors, and coastal environments

“Our team understands what a tremendous responsibility it is to provide design solutions that protect our national parks for future generations in an environmentally-sensitive manner,” said John Wiser, Stantec's NPS Program Manager based in Denver. “We're proud to help the NPS in its mission to revitalize our communities, preserve local history, celebrate local heritage, and create opportunities to get outside and be active.”

Stantec has a long-standing relationship with the NPS and has provided planning, compliance, and design services supporting the Denver Service Center for more than 15 years — from Everglades National Park in Florida to Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska, and multiple national park units in between.
